Local doctor publishes second Parkinson’s study – The Summerville Journal Scene
According to a release from his office, he has produced two studies on the subject.
Malachowski calls his latest study the most profound; this particular study utilized the gold standard for grading Parkinson’s disease, the Unified Parkinson’s Disease rating scale (UPDRS). The UPDRS is mainly used by neurologists to classify how severe Parkinson’s patients are presenting.
Malachowski said that his study, which is documented in the Journal of Upper Cervical Subluxation, showed a much higher percent change in symptomatic presentation of being under care from three months to 36 months compared to a much lower change in symptomatic presentation following conventional drug therapy and comparing UPDRS scores.
The UPDRS in particular asks various questions ranging from intensity of tremors to swallowing difficulty to issues with depression.
The study goes on to detail how the cases were cared for and the results of the UPDRS scale.
“For us it’s about increasing the quality of peoples’ lives,” Malachowski said.
